Nova Friburgo

This is where I’m going, to begin with: Nova Friburgo. (In English)

178,000 people, founded by Swiss colonists around 1820. Principal industries (if the Wikipedia and my bad Portuguese can be trusted): garments and textiles, especially lingerie, tourism, fruit and vegetables, goats, and metallurgy.

Yes, lingerie. Friburgo is famous for it, though I believe outsourcing and globalisation is starting to hit the local industry.

Coming from New Zealand, the place geographically reminds me of Hanmer Springs, in that it’s nestled in a valley between hills — but with half the population of Christchurch.
